The Typewriter Database News

SSL/DNS Issues this morning. Wed, 20 Apr 2022
Yep, remember that DNS problem we had with Enom a couple months ago? Well that prompted me to switch the DNS provider to Google, but they didn't copy all of the records correctly, so when it came time for SSL certificate renewal, it failed. I've fixed that now, but it meant scary messages when accessing the site this morning. Sorry about that (:

Dingwerth's "Kleines Lexikon" added to TWDB Sources Thu, 10 Mar 2022
I finally picked up a copy of Source #14, Leonard Dingwerth's "Kleines Lexikon Historischer Schreibmaschinen", and added an age list for Frister & Rossmann from that data. Also added one for Kontor and updated Halda with some new data. Enjoy! (:

Urania serial number page updated! Mon, 21 Feb 2022
I saw a Uriania 9 that got uploaded with a 195x date, and thought "I'm pretty sure Urania is well-represented in Herstellungsdaten" and sure enough, I guess Dirk hadn't got source #24 when he started the page, so I checked there and updated the missing info. Urania page is now more complete.

New page for Panasonic Sun, 06 Feb 2022
It's not much - just a theorized datecode for Panasonic electronic wedges. It checks out with known examples and period advertising, though, so it is probably good. Thanks to Steve K. for info that helped crack the code. (:

This weekend's outage Sun, 16 Jan 2022
Well, the "typewriterdatabase.com" domain is having issues at the root DNS level because the domain registrar flubbed a data center migration. The issue only affects DNS (the map for routing your web browser to the TWDB's server), so there's no danger of anything being lost - the web server itself is running fine. I've changed the site's configuration to make the primary name "www.typewriterdatabase.com" which which is an alias domain that seems to be somewhat reliable for directing traffic to the server if you use it. No idea when this will be fixed, as it's all happening upstream of the stuff I control. Updated information will be posted at this blog post as it comes in:

Typewriter Hunter Search Thu, 16 Sep 2021
There is now an "SRV" view available to logged-in Typewriter Hunters on the "Typewriter Hunters" List. The default is "TPV", so to access the new Search function, you'll need to switch to SRV View via the link just below the page title - which you will only see if you are logged in at Typewriter Hunter level. You can now use Search to find specific Typewriter Hunters, if you are a Typewriter Hunter. (:

Voss page updated! Sun, 13 Sep 2020
The Voss galleries were a bit of a mess, undoubtedly because Voss model names are fairly obscure and are not usually marked on the machine. I myself was pretty fuzzy on the topic, so before cleaning them up, I had to do a crash course on Georg Sommereger's 2012 research on the company, and look up the only published age list in Berghagen 1962 and work out the technical notes in German therein. Those sources suggested that there was no Model 51 (they're just Model 50's made in 1951) and no Model "De Luxe" (those are all S, ST or STD 24's or 32's). I have reorganized the Vossen accordingly and then discovered some new info from having the galleries reorganized and added that stuff to the page as well. It should be fairly easy to figure out your Voss model from the age list now.
