1919 Continental Standard Serial # 131291 1919 Continental Standard typewriter, Serial # 131291 Paolo Dal Chiele's 1919 Continental Standard typewriter. 2026-02-19 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Paolo Dal Chiele: 1919 Continental Standard Serial # 131291 Since the rollers and the platen of my 1909 are in very poor conditions and I cannot wait month for having them refurbished, I had to find a donor typewriter.
I have found this 1919 that is in relatively good conditions, in the sense that even if it is not in working conditions, it seems to be complete and recoverable.
The rollers seems to be in good shape, and the paper is dragged evenly and regularly, that was what I was looking for. For the rest, nothing is working, and the main reason seems to be mixture of oil, grease and dirt which covers all the internal components of the mechanics. The only option is to take it completely apart as I have done with the 1909 to accurately clean every single part.

Interested in historic motoring and vintage cars, I received a typewriter as a bonus when I bought and old off-road car. The previous owner had found somewhere a typewriter produced for the German army and when he sold me the car he gave me the typewriter too. As I learned later, it was a1961 Olympia SM7 Robust..
Of the typewriters I value more character than perfection, the signs that time has left and the stories - or fragments of stories - of those who used them ...
