1921 Continental Standard Serial # 185603 1921 Continental Standard typewriter, Serial # 185603 Paolo Dal Chiele's 1921 Continental Standard typewriter. 2020-07-03 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Paolo Dal Chiele: 1921 Continental Standard Serial # 185603 After spending two weeks repairing two Olivetti Studio 44s, I needed something different. The inspiration came from the book I was reading, Brunhilde Pomsel's The Work I Did: A Memoir of the Secretary to Goebbels, on whose cover the author appears at work in front of a Continental Standard.
It is a model prior to 1938, and considering that the setting does not seem to be what one would expect for the Ministry of Propaganda of the III Reich, the photo is probably earlier than the period in which Pomsel worked for Goebbels.
The fact remains that the book is interesting and the Continental Standard is a machine that has made history.
The typewriter was in relatively good conditions with the exception of the broken draw band , some sticky keys and lot of grime .

Interested in historic motoring and vintage cars, I received a typewriter as a bonus when I bought and old off-road car. The previous owner had found somewhere a typewriter produced for the German army and when he sold me the car he gave me the typewriter too. As I learned later, it was a1961 Olympia SM7 Robust..
Of the typewriters I value more character than perfection, the signs that time has left and the stories - or fragments of stories - of those who used them ...
