Description:
I cleaned up for a friend of a friend.
The typewriter has one platen knob (by design). The carriage is unlocked by pulling gently to the right on the right platen knob. Carriage is re-locked (so that it will fit in the case) by pulling forward on the carriage lock lever on the left and pushing the right platen knob in.
I recently sighted a Remington Porto-Rite in the same lovely light/dark āOrchidā color. http://typewriterdatabase.com/193x-remington-portorite.5954.typewriter
I was unable to find a manual so some of the controls were/are mysterious to me. The Remington 3 is very similar to the Remington Deluxe Junior Portable.
Is this a typewriter with set tab stops? I have not figured out how tab stops are set.
The machine is very low slung, so it needs to be on its base for typing so that the mechanics can move freely.
Serial number is stamped on the frame in back on the right.

I'm a novice collector with a very small collection of mostly nonfunctional typewriters. I enjoy tinkering and repairs, so I am slowly but surely putting these typewriters back into service.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Portable 3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Portable 3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
