Description:
2026-02-22 Update: Added additional and better images, including macro shots of the type slugs, showing the foundry marks, which I presume represent some variant of Elite typeface. I had a look at my July 1924 Remington Portable, #NV42665, which also has an Elite typeface, and seems to have the same foundry marks. My earlier two Remington Portables on TWDB currently, NE20877 (AUG 1922) and NA14170 (DEC 1921) are Pica, and seem to have no foundry marks at all.
2025-11-30 Gallery Creation: This is my 1925 Remington Model 2 portable typewriter, S/N NX52146 (May 1925). I won it at auction on eBay on 9/30/1998. My winning bid was $33.34, and with shipping at $9.00, my total cost came to $42.34. This machine is in excellent cosmetic condition with great decals. It has not been serviced, except for installation of a fresh ribbon; but it is in reasonable operating condition, except that the lower or "red" bichrome ribbon selector setting produces a two-tone black-red print. It has an Elite typeface. It came with its original case, which came with its original key; there is also a worn-out cleaning brush in the case.

My interest in typewriters started in 1997, when I was in graduate school at the University of Georgia. I purchased and read Darryl Rehr's book, joined ETC, and started reaching out to known collectors. I had several email interchanges with Richard Polt dating from that period. I also bought some of my first machines from Bob Aubert, and visited him at his home twice. After marriage and relocation to New England, I continued visiting antique shops and eBay, until other priorities put my typewriter hobby on hiatus around 2008. I still have my collection of around 57 machines, and now I have a renewed interest in getting some of them in good working and cosmetic order.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Portable 2 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Portable 2 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
