Description:
Every typewriter has a weak link. I believe the poor plating on SGs is the weak link. I've seen enough of them where they have come out of the same environments, and the Olympias will have the tell-tale pitting and surface rust. Their storage companions, often much older machines, will sometimes be mostly rust-free.
This machine was a hot mess (link), being covered in tape, adhesive spread across the back, dirty and greased up. It had been sitting around for over a year, and finally, I worked up the courage. The roller rubber was shot and proved to be surprisingly easy to find a match for. A few springs off and some sorting of the margin release, and she is good to go! Getting the adhesive off the back was a nerve-racking experience.
$230 ($2280) in 1966.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SG3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SG3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
