Description:
I cleaned and fixed this for a friend of a friend. I inserted a new drawstring after the original became tangled in the mechanics under the carriage.
The typewriter had thick, gooey brown residue on the typebar rest, typebars and in the segment that was resistant to repeated applications of mineral spirits, denatured alcohol, and naphtha. Keys at the outer segment were particularly affected. Finally able to progress with carb cleaner and dry lube PFTE spray.
Tabbing still sluggish after cleaning and lubrication.
Wide carriage with carriage shift.
I laid orange felt on the rock-hard rubber typebar rest to reduce clanging during typing.
Serial number is stamped on the bottom near the back.

I'm a novice collector with a very small collection of mostly nonfunctional typewriters. I enjoy tinkering and repairs, so I am slowly but surely putting these typewriters back into service.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM7 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM7 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
