Description:
The typewriter that made me discover typewriters.
Received as a bonus when I bought the VW Iltis some years ago.
The former owner considered it to be an appropriate even if unusual complement for the ex-Bundeswehr off-road, and give it to me together with the car.
The typewriter was not working: the draw band was disconnected, and as I discovered later the problem was (ad still is because I have not fix it yet) a blocked pinion of the tabulator mechanism. If the tabulator is not used, the typewriter works just fine.
There is a big red paint dot on the left side of the carriage, That I guess was a sign that the typewriter was not working, and may be was the reason why it was decommissioned by the army at the beginning of the '90s.
Since the car was produced in 1981 and decommissioned in 1994, they may have meet before....
Wide carriage, Elite.

Interested in historic motoring and vintage cars, I received a typewriter as a bonus when I bought and old off-road car. The previous owner had found somewhere a typewriter produced for the German army and when he sold me the car he gave me the typewriter too. As I learned later, it was a1961 Olympia SM7 Robust..
Of the typewriters I value more character than perfection, the signs that time has left and the stories - or fragments of stories - of those who used them ...
