Description:
This gallery is to provide few additional details about the Dynamic S gallery posted by Aaron.
According the contemporary literature that I have consulted, the model name "Dynamic S" is indeed strange.
The "Liste der Herstellungsdaten", March 1962 edition , the Solitaire was discontinued in 1960, and replaced by two models, the Dynacord V in introduced in 1959 and the Dynacord S introduced in 1960.
The Dynamyc S in the gallery posted by Aaron looks very close to the Dynacord V according to the "Büromaschinen Lexicon", 6th Edition 1962/1963, that was discontinued to be soon replaced by the newly designed Dynacord.
According to the serial number list in the Liste, the very low serial number correspond to a typewriter produced in 1959, which seems in contradiction with the same source when saying that the Dynacord V has been introduced in 1960.
As a matter of fact, considering that the model has been introduced very late in 1959 (from serial number 2000000 to serial number 2000680) it seems realistic to assume that the model has been considered as fully available starting from the following year.
The Dynacord has been a completely new design compared to the Solitaire, the most obvious difference being the position of the draw band spring, that in the Solitaire was fixed to the chassis while in the Dynacord family was more conventionally fixed to the carriage, but unconventionally in horizontal position, just to confirm how the Torpedo Engineers were thinking "out of the box".
According to the description, there were several differences between the Model S and the Model V,: the Model S was for "organizations," and therefore intended for use in a business environment, while the Model V was defined as "for correspondence."
Compared to the Model V, the Model S had the following differences:
- In addition to the 32 cm carriage, 38, 46, or 63 cm carriages were available.
- 7- or 10-digit tabulator.
- System to release jammed typebars.
- Carriage damper.
- Adjustable automatic paper feed.
- Multiple copy capability.
- 4-zone ribbon control.
- Single and double spacing for text highlighting.
Short lived, already rare with the model name Dynacord, even rarer with the model name of Dynamic: defintely a typewriter that deserved to be preserved!

Interested in historic motoring and vintage cars, I received a typewriter as a bonus when I bought and old off-road car. The previous owner had found somewhere a typewriter produced for the German army and when he sold me the car he gave me the typewriter too. As I learned later, it was a1961 Olympia SM7 Robust..
Of the typewriters I value more character than perfection, the signs that time has left and the stories - or fragments of stories - of those who used them ...
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Torpedo Dynacord V on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Torpedo Serial Number page and the Torpedo Dynacord V By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
