Description:
This 1960 Optima Super was discovered in Hamilton, Ontario. Paid a little too much, but just under a hundred bucks Canadian. Most typewriters from the country are discovered at estate sales or church donation boxes. This green beauty was donated and the owner tried to make a buck. At least they weren’t selling for $400.
A typewriter checked off the bucket list and works like a dream. The green and more green is attractive with lovely curves and an oversized suitcase carrying case. German typewriters are a favourite of mine and with my Olympia SM3, they make a great pair.
The history of Olympia and Optima are knotted together something about a war, a political split of east and west and a name change. I’ve attached Robert Messengers fantastic post about the Optima/Olympia history.
I enjoy writing on this typewriter. There is a strength in the keys that aid with the typing, The workhorse quality of this machine will hopefully help me complete a lot of stories.

I purchased my first typewriter in 2000: Brother Pro-Line 707 built in 1969.
I wrote eight hours a day, seven days a week on that tiny machine. I wrote my first unpublished novel and hundreds of short stories on the Brother.
In 2020 I decided to purchase my second typewriter. At ten and counting, I still use and collect these amazing tools for writing.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Optima Super on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Optima Serial Number page and the Optima Super By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
