Description:
I cleaned this unusual German-made Royal typewriter for my niece. Her grandfather had used it during college. It was very gummy from disuse, but otherwise beautifully cared for with the original case and dust cover. A Seattle service receipt from 1966 that I found in the case details cleaning and adjustment that cost $10.42.
The typewriter seems to be a solid, high quality product. The adhesive "Administrator" badge (now peeling) seems a strange choice on this otherwise fine typewriter.
The spool cover tilts forward - neat! However, it lacks insulation which makes it a bit noisy while typing.
The serial number is stamped under the carriage on the right side in two places, one with an "MR" prefix. I wonder if "MR" stands for "Mannheim Royal".

I'm a novice collector with a very small collection of mostly nonfunctional typewriters. I enjoy tinkering and repairs, so I am slowly but surely putting these typewriters back into service.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal Administrator on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal Administrator By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
