Description:
Beautiful Underwood De Luxe Quiet Tab with a serious escapement problem: carriage won't catch.
Update 3/23/24: I removed the carriage to find a broken loose dog. An initial repair with J-B Weld epoxy broke off, so I modeled the loose dog in Tinkercad and had a 3D print made at the public library (PLA with 100% infill density). The PLA dog is working great. Since I worry about its longterm durability, I am on the hunt for a replacement dog from a parts machine. The typeface is "Continental".

I'm a novice collector with a very small collection of mostly nonfunctional typewriters. I enjoy tinkering and repairs, so I am slowly but surely putting these typewriters back into service.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood De Luxe on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood De Luxe By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
