Description:
This SM3 has three peculiarities: medical keyboard, double backspace and simplified early streamlined case.
Double backspace means then when pressing the backspace, the carriage is moved back by two spaces instead of one, which I believe was an option or maybe specific of typewriter with medical keyboard.
Interesting to note the letters "MED" hand written behind the type segment.
Update: Added the pictures of the backspace tooth in the medical SM3 to be compared with that of an ordinary SM3. The shape is obviously different and the the distance between the base of the tooth and the the fulcrum of rotation is 12mm and 10mm respectively.

Interested in historic motoring and vintage cars, I received a typewriter as a bonus when I bought and old off-road car. The previous owner had found somewhere a typewriter produced for the German army and when he sold me the car he gave me the typewriter too. As I learned later, it was a1961 Olympia SM7 Robust..
Of the typewriters I value more character than perfection, the signs that time has left and the stories - or fragments of stories - of those who used them ...
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SM3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SM3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
