Description:
I cleaned and repaired a broken drawband on this typewriter. It belongs to a friend of a friend.
The typewriter had an interesting white residue on its keys (see before picture below) that it very similar to residue I have seen on another 1950s Royal QDL I cleaned up. The residue came off easily with Goo Gone. My guess is that the white residue is some chemical in the plastic that comes out over time.
This Royal QDL has a similar residue on its keys:

The serial number is located under the carriage on the left side of the machine.

I'm a novice collector with a very small collection of mostly nonfunctional typewriters. I enjoy tinkering and repairs, so I am slowly but surely putting these typewriters back into service.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal Quiet De Luxe on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal Quiet De Luxe By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
