Description:
I bought this machine years ago, and only now got to cleaning it. It has a very interesting, towering design, that becomes apparent when you remove the body panels. This was very dirty. Like its L.C. Smith predecessors, this machine doesn't have a segment, but individually-hung typebars.
I had to straighten the plates that hold the feet in a vise. I also used a paint stick to refill the keytop legends.
The green/brown keyboard color scheme echoes that of the Smith-Corona portables of the same period.
Weight: 26.2 lbs/11.9 kg.
Argh, just noticed I entered a duplicate with:

I started collecting my first pre-WW2 standard typewriters in 2017. Since then I have added a few machines to my collection, which now ranges from the 1880s to the 1980s. As of 2024, I have more big standard (desktop) typewriters than portables, a few standard electrics, and some unusual machines like Varitypers, uncommon IBM machines, and more. I am not a pro restorer, but I have restored a few of my machines beyond simple cleaning.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Super Speed on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Super Speed By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
