1949 Smith Corona Skyriter Serial # 2Y 53135 1949 Smith Corona Skyriter typewriter, Serial # 2Y 53135 Jessi-Lyn Curry's 1949 Smith Corona Skyriter typewriter. 2017-09-25 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Jessi-Lyn Curry: 1949 Smith Corona Skyriter Serial # 2Y 53135 "Peter"

A friend's machine that needed a lot of work. This will be in my collection until after the New Year, 2018. If I want to keep it, I need to find one to give him in exchange, but he doesn't know what he wants yet. He bought it used for $4 around 1962 and used it for college in the 60's. He did, finally, admit to dropping it.

Missing one of the paper rests. The right hand, accent keys were bent from the drop. Fixed now. Beyond disgusting filthy! But no rust. And when I first got it, it was brown. After a good scrubbing it is grey. He didn't know it was grey. Yuck! People are weird.

Also, European keyboard. Freaked me out at first because after typing an accent, the escapement doesn't advance. Looking underneath the machine shows that it is by design. So you can type the corresponding letter without hitting backspace. Very nifty. I learned something new.

Small time collector working on skills as a hobbyist repair technician. Mostly a writer with a hatred for computer word processing programs. I think I have found my Eleanor, but I keep looking and giving away my machines until I have just the right one. Plus I love working on and cleaning these amazing machines.
