Description:
This 1943 Underwood S with 14" carriage was likely one of the last typerwriters to come off the line before Underwood switched production over to Carbines for the war effort in WWII. I got it in Havertown PA, in January 2019 from a retired teacher. And bonus points: it has a dealer tag from Newtown Square, which is indeed quite local!

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood S on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood S By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
