Description:
Rescued from a house that was being demolished, this Model Seventeen is full of the detritus typical of decades of disuse - plus a healthy serving of wood shavings and chunks of plaster. Despite its current condition, it does type, even if a few keys struggle to punch through the mess contaminating its segment.
I wouldn't have even considered creating a gallery for this machine were it not for its serial number. The Remington page states that production of this model temporarily ceased in December, 1942 because of World War II, and then resumed on 17 September, 1943 when the JC prefix was introduced with the first serial number being 533816. If this is correct, what then should be made of this machine's number, which is JC458358?

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington 17 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington 17 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
