Description:
I received this typewriter from a Chemistry Professor who saw me bring a portable every day to class and then offered me her father's typewriter. He had worked for the War Department during the Second World War which explains the stamp on the front which says "PROPERTY AIR FORCE UNITED STATES ARMY." Evidently this typewriter saw further use by the government as it also has a Civil Defense seal on the top right. I think it has an elite typeface as the typeface is slightly smaller than the one on my other Remington 17. I've written a few essays on it and it's held up so far, although when I got it I did need to replace the draw string. Other than that it works perfectly and I expect to use it for another 80 years.

Hello! I've always been interested in vintage and antique things and one day I just started collecting typewriters and I eventually learned to fix them. I've brought a typewriter with me to school every day for the last two years and have used them for almost all my work that's required typing--luckily most of my professors accepted typewritten work :).
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington 17 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington 17 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
