193X Barr Typewriter Serial # P13777 193X Barr Typewriter typewriter, Serial # P13777 Thomas Page's 193X Barr Typewriter typewriter. 2021-09-14 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Thomas Page: 193X Barr Typewriter Serial # P13777 This machine is pictured in the Will Davis article on the Barr Typewriter in the New Information Section. It has a maroon crinkle finish, is labeled only Barr (although it appears to be identical to the Barr Special) and has decals both on the paper tray and the front of the typewriter. It was apparently part of the Tim Champlin collection. I acquired it on eBay. I've replaced the missing thumb piece on the carriage lock and the paper bail rollers. I've also replaced the case handle and the case feet (with feet provided by my friend, the late Steven Dade--a great loss). New cotton ribbon from a bulk spool I purchased from Baco Ribbon & Supply in Manchester, MO. When I acquired the typewriter, the ribbon reverse wasn't working. After examining it, I figured out it was pressing against the base board, a problem easily remedied with longer bolts through the case feet and a couple of rubber washers between the baseboard and the bottom of the typewriter to add clearance. It now types perfectly. If only all repairs were so easy.

I collect and restore European and American typewriters from the 1890s through the 1960s. I focus on portables but I have recently begun to add American Olivers to my collection.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Barr Typewriter on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Barr Serial Number page and the Barr Typewriter By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
