Description:
This is my second typewriter, but I don't 'have' it yet. In April 2017, I went to Canada to visit family and mentioned my budding typewriter passion. My Aunt Marj brought me this typer, supposedly 'broken' because she had been trying to sell it for over a year and no one could make it work. It took me 10 minutes to get the Magic Margin separated from center, and turned the ribbon from stencil to black.
Presto!
I don't have it because I couldn't take it home on the plane with me. And I don't dare put it in the mail. And back then, 5 months ago, I had no clue how to pack it. Now I know, but I still won't risk it.
Smithers is a single owner, mint condition No' 1 Series Standard model. Purchased in 1940 in Minneapolis, MN by a war bride, tayloress for her business in Ontario.
I gave my Aunt the sticker price of $50. It was in Canadian, but I gave her USD, which paid for her US cost of quilting her new grandbaby's first quilt.

Small time collector working on skills as a hobbyist repair technician. Mostly a writer with a hatred for computer word processing programs. I think I have found my Eleanor, but I keep looking and giving away my machines until I have just the right one. Plus I love working on and cleaning these amazing machines.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Super Speed on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Super Speed By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
