Description:
Lovely glossy black Bar-Lock Portable. Serial number data base stops before this serial number. However, the typewriter exists and is clearly a pre-War machine. Missing its right ribbon spool cover.. The ribbon spool covers are quite deep and made of heavy duty steel. Case shows some wear. I've replaced the missing leather portion of the case handle. Case handle is unusual for this type of handle in that the hardware unscrews from the case. This makes replacement of the leather easier than it is on the Hermes Featherweight/Baby or the Imperial Good Companion (although you still have to fit the leather around the inner steel strip).

I collect and restore European and American typewriters from the 1890s through the 1960s. I focus on portables but I have recently begun to add American Olivers to my collection.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Barlock Portable on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Barlock Serial Number page and the Barlock Portable By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
