Description:
Given my interests in Russian political history, this is one of my most treasured machines. It is a 1934 Remington 16, that was manually re-keyed by the famed guru, Mr. Typewriter, Martin K. Tytell in New York City. Tytell not only sold and serviced typewriters in New York, he also was able to change typewriter keysets for virtually every language on earth. I purchased this one through Craigslist in Vermont in 2015. I then had friends of mine, who teach Russian at the University of Vermont pick it up for me, and hold it until we met at a Russian-studies convention in Boston in November of 2018. The backstory was that it was first owned by an American Russian-language instructor in New York City in the 1940s/1950s. It took some cleaning, but it is in great shape, for one of the few Tytell typewriters left.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington 16 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington 16 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
