1933 Triumph Durabel Serial # 131044 1933 Triumph Durabel typewriter, Serial # 131044 Paolo Dal Chiele's 1933 Triumph Durabel typewriter. 2025-03-08 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Paolo Dal Chiele: 1933 Triumph Durabel Serial # 131044 First year of production. Paint and logos specific of the 1933 m.y..
The serial number of the prewar Triumph are a little messy and contradictory, but the Durabel was introduced as a budget complement to the Klein in 1933, and followed in 1934 by the Norm (that replaced the Klein) and the Perfekt with the new body.
Introduced to keep Triumph competitive in the portable typewriter market, the Durabel was a success thanks to the flexibility of the design of the Klein that permitted the significant reduction of the cost without substantial modifications, contrary for instance to Urania.
When found this specific model looked complete and unmolested, but almost unrecognizable due to the layer of dust and dirt that covered it. Only the bottom of the case remained, and judging by its condition, the top part must have been lost a very long time ago.
After a deep cleaning it turned out to be in much better condition than I thought, and now runs absolutely flawlessly. Triumphs in general, and this Durabel in particular, are extremely pleasant machines to use.

Interested in historic motoring and vintage cars, I received a typewriter as a bonus when I bought and old off-road car. The previous owner had found somewhere a typewriter produced for the German army and when he sold me the car he gave me the typewriter too. As I learned later, it was a1961 Olympia SM7 Robust..
