Description:
Cleaned up and repaired for a friend of a friend.
Machine had persistent, random type bar malfunctioning due to a ribbon spool thumb nut that was lodged in a sublever linkage inside the typewriter. It might have been there for years. Thumb nut retrieved and all is well.
I am unsure of the date of manufacture but an early-ish Underwood Four Bank like Richard Polt’s: no left platen knob; metal tab for shift lock instead of a key; carriage return lever hook points left.
Carriage shift. The spool cups rise and fall with the carriage on shifting.
Serial number is stamped next to left ribbon cup.
Typewriter is secured to the case base with two springed screws – no finger latches.

I'm a novice collector with a very small collection of mostly nonfunctional typewriters. I enjoy tinkering and repairs, so I am slowly but surely putting these typewriters back into service.
