Description:
Pre-WWII Hebrew Typewriters are exceedingly rare, so I was honored to adopt this machine from the apartment of Tikva and the late Peter Tytell in September, 2024. This was among the Tytells’ personal typewriters.
It does not sport the Tytells’ signature NYC dealership tag, but rather that of a different typewriter exchange in Brooklyn. That and the soldering on the split slugs suggests to me that Peter likely converted this one himself to Hebrew for his and Tikva’s personal use.
The drawband is looped to operate the carriage in the opposite direction, and a top-facing return lever takes the place of a downward-facing one on the right side of the carriage. Still, this is a fascinating and exceedingly rare machine that I am honored to have in my collection.
