Description:
This is an L.C. Smith with a 10" platen. I found it at a local antique shop. When I went to clean the dust out, it had a purple marble inside. It has a decimal tabulator. Since this picture was made, I acquired a second paper finger for this machine.
I have since acquired a second L.C. Smith Model 8; it is a slightly later model and has covered sides and front, i.e. no holes. Plus, the font of the keys changed sometime during this period.

I decided that I wanted to find the one typewriter that I remembered my mom using to type my term papers in school. Even though we couldn't find it, I found that I enjoyed typewriters and started a collection. It extended to rescuing the ones in my parents' basement a week before it flooded.
I enjoy making machines work and especially like to use the Smith Premier typewriters.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the L.C. Smith 8 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the L.C. Smith Serial Number page and the L.C. Smith 8 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
