191x Victor 3 Serial # 9752 191x Victor 3 typewriter, Serial # 9752 Erik Bruchez's 191x Victor 3 typewriter. 2022-09-24 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Erik Bruchez: 191x Victor 3 Serial # 9752 I was not familiar with Victor typewriters but when I saw this one I couldn't resist. It's a beautiful design.

Among other interesting aspects, the machine has an unusual decimal tabulator system, as well as an unusual zig-zag ribbon vibrator design.

The Victor No. 3 was made from 1912 to 1919. According to TWDB, serials went from 8000 to 25000 and 17000 units were produced. The serial for this machine is therefore low at 9752. I double-checked that there is no hidden leading digit.

The five other Victor 3 so far on TWDB are marked 1912 and 1914, but I don't know if we can know those dates with any certainty. 9752 is currently lower than the other serials on TWDB.

Did you know that the big key in the middle is not the tabulator, but the backspace?

UPDATE: I shipped this machine to myself from Switzerland to California. The box was sent on July 9, and it arrived on August 13, in perfect condition. The machine's body was tightly packed and double-boxed. I thought I had done a decent job with the packing, but I am still relieved that nothing bad happened. Now to clean it!

UPDATE 2022-09-24: I have now cleaned the Victor 3. The keyboard got special care. I also I removed rust on the ribbon selector and repainted the red part. I put new rubber feet.

I started collecting my first pre-WW2 standard typewriters in 2017. Since then I have added a few machines to my collection, which now ranges from the 1880s to the 1980s. As of 2024, I have more big standard (desktop) typewriters than portables, a few standard electrics, and some unusual machines like Varitypers, uncommon IBM machines, and more. I am not a pro restorer, but I have restored a few of my machines beyond simple cleaning.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Victor 3 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Victor Serial Number page and the Victor 3 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
