Description:
I cleaned this very old typewriter and un-jammed its jammed carriage for a friend at a local shop. Now clean and with a new ribbon, it types wonderfully though noisily. The platen is very hard. I made new feet out of wine corks.
Basket shift.
Interesting push-button line spacing mechanism.
The serial number is hidden inside the machine frame behind the tab bar in front (see image below).

I'm a novice collector with a very small collection of mostly nonfunctional typewriters. I enjoy tinkering and repairs, so I am slowly but surely putting these typewriters back into service.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the L.C. Smith 5 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the L.C. Smith Serial Number page and the L.C. Smith 5 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
