I started collecting in February 2021 and I now own 50. The oldest is a Caligraph from 1882, the newest is a Smith-Corona Coronet XL from 1970 something. Over the past year I have learned so much about different machines and how they work. Repairing a typewriter that doesn't work is both challenging and very rewarding.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hammond 1 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hammond Serial Number page and the Hammond 1 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
