Description:

Remington model 5 de luxe.

Beautiful looking machine but has given me a world of grief.

Can't get to work because escapement dog either binds on rack or slips. Can't see a way of adjusting the horizontal rack to escapement distance.

I think the tooth is too far into the rack so it can't get out of it. Strangely, theres a screw on one side of the rack which allows you to move one end of the rack up and down, not sure why this would be needed and certainly only makes things worse.

Would love the opportunity to see the underside of a working one to see the dog moving correctly.

Wasted hours on this thing and was done on eBay :(( feeling sad

I have attached pictures of the dog. Hopefully a kind person will see this and help me. I would be so grateful.

Not sure what this type of escapement is called. Rather than an escapement with a round cog which moves along the rack with a larger escapement wheel, this has a teeter-totter arrangement that moves two dogs above and below the rack and a spring keeps it.

As a young child, I always enjoyed taking things apart and seeing how they functioned.

I have been collecting a range of vintage typewriters for over two years.

Previously, I was interested in restoring sewing machines, then I acquired my mothers Olivetti Dora and looked under the hood and typed, I was hooked on typewriters and how they worked.

I learn something every day from passionate bloggers and typewriter enthusiasts.
