USA-Built and WT (World Trade) serial numbers followed different patterns.
Early USA-built Selectrics only have a 7-digit serial number (4000000 and up) without any other codes.
Later machines have the product code (21, 26, 27 or 30) in front of the serial number.
It seems that factory codes did not appear on Selectrics made in the USA until the
Selectric III was introduced (around 1981).

It seems MOST WT (World Trade) machines used the following numbering pattern:

Where XX is the Factory Code
Where YY is the Model Code
Where ZZZZZZZ is the Sequence Number
However, examples exist where the serial number follows pattern YY - XX - ZZZZZZZ
USA-made Selectric III's will usually follow the pattern YY - Machine ID Code - XX - ZZZZZZZ.
