Description:
Found at thrift store and purchased mainly to open it up to look for datestamps. Confirmed: this scalloped light-grey body style is a 21st-century produced Brother product.
There seems to be little difference between this machine and Brother electronic wedges built 20 years previously. This one is a simple non-word-processing typewriter model. Actually quite pleasant to use, and you don't need a user's manual to figure out the functions.
Interestingly, the ribbon and typewheel from the 10-years older WP-5600MDS are an exact match for the ones in this machine. Completely interchangable.
Found datestamps of Dec. 2005 on top shell molding and on back of keyboard assembly, matching perfectly with serial number.

I am a scoundrel without a cause, and my swank outshines the sun.
I am a casual Typewriter Hunter residing in some liminal transitional spacetime between my lifetime in Arizona to the New World of PROBABLY Conneticut with a wife, two cats and about 50 typewriters. My main hunting ground is thrift stores, and I rarely pay more than $10 for a machine. My collection consists mainly of portables with cases, and they stay in the cases unless I am actively using it (usually more than one at a time). I do, however keep a handful of interesting Selectrics, including a Composer.
(frankly, I'm not going to change my avatar background because CT's flag is lame.)
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Brother SX-4000 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Brother Serial Number page and the Brother SX-4000 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
