198X Maritsa 30 Serial # 30265692 198X Maritsa 30 typewriter, Serial # 30265692 Dimitris Nikou's 198X Maritsa 30 typewriter. 2020-10-29 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Dimitris Nikou: 198X Maritsa 30 Serial # 30265692 Maritsa 30 typewriter with Greek keyboard, manufactured in Bulgaria, by Typewriters Works. Was the first piece of my collection.

Purchased in good condition, as it was kept unused and stored for many years. I cannot be sure about the exact year of manufacture and it is impossible to find serial number records for Bulgarian made typewriters anywhere on the net - but, I am sure it's an early 80's machine, because the keyboard follows the simplified monotonic orthography system of the Greek language, officialy introduced in 1982. Earlier typewriters with Greek keyboard had special keys with more tonic and accent symbols that were in use - it was called polytonic system and it was more complex.

I cleaned and oiled it, managed to solve some issues with sticky keys, changed the ribbon and now the typewriter works fine. It's a beautiful machine, looks cheap with all this plastic, but the mechanical parts give a confident feeling when I type.

UPDATE 29/10/2020: Sold, as I decided to give all my plastic late 70's to early 80's machines in favor of buying more early and mid-century typewriters.

Writer and blogger from Athens, Greece. I own a small collection of typewriters, most of my machines are functional and I try to repair any with problems that keeps it from typing. For me, it is important for a typewriter not just to sit on a shelve for display, but to be able to type when I want to. On the links below you will find my blogs and social media profiles. Feel free to follow me and get in touch if you want. I am always happy to communicate :)
