1984 Brother BP-30 Serial # F41354449 1984 Brother BP-30 typewriter, Serial # F41354449 Guillermo Fernandez Boan's 1984 Brother BP-30 typewriter. 2023-03-23 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Guillermo Fernandez Boan: 1984 Brother BP-30 Serial # F41354449 Brother Type-a-Graph is Brother’s response to Panasonic RK-P400C. Like its siblings, this Brother is not just an electronic typewriter but adds the graphic four-color printer ability.
Both models operate by means of a rotating head provided with color pens (now completely dried) allowing the user to type and draw many kinds of graphics.
The Panasonic had an interface connector which is absent in this Brother.
Both can be battery operated (six D cells in the Panasonics, five in the Brother) in addition to mains connectors, so portability is a valuable option.
This Brother was offered and sold in the www as “complete and fully operative”. As a matter of fact, it is nearly complete (just lacks the User Manual) but it is not operative. You can install the five D batteries, select “On” in the corresponding button, it turns to life… and that’s all folks!.
Nothing else happens, not mechanically nor in the LCD display.
Till now, I am the one at the TWDB with color pens printers in my collection.
The electronic age was the typewriters swansong, so not many typewriters were built/sold in the eighties and nineties, and few of them exist nowadays.
