Description:
The ads for this "semi-electric" budget model begin in 1975. By 1980 they are done. However, this one has a SN that would indicate 1983 mfg. A carriage shifter with manual return, ten space fixed tabs, and a manual backspace.
This is same as Royal/Litton Apollo 12 (Silver Seiko) under the plastic.
Little used but the belt had fallen apart and what was left was gooey. These have the drive on the right and use a flat belt running on a driven pulley with no groove. So an o ring will not stay in place. For testing I used a #64 rubber band. After looking about for some flat belt options, I used a HD version of the #64 rubber band that is approximately double the cross sectional width. Long term, who knows?
This would make a great starter typewriter or a machine for a child. It features a durable plastic body, is well built and super easy to service.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
