Description:
What year is it? Ads for “with correction” start in 1978. The SN denotes 1977. The Nakajima electrics were offered in numerous model name variations. The early ones had all white bodies and smaller 10 inch carriages. Along the way the keyboard and switch functions varied. Deluxe (SKE), CE-R12 (correction), E-12, (no correction), X-L12 (larger carriage despite the 12 code), Olympiette SEP (manual return), M-R12 (manual return), so far.
Elite 13 per inch. This was an easy clean up and replaced the belt with a roughly 5 in OD x 1/8 in generic o-ring. This is what almost always ends these machines. How many went to the landfill? It works well and other than the belt, is pretty robust in my opinion. These Nakajima made models were also Sears Scholars and a number of others. They are super easy to get apart and clean. So throw a $2 O-ring on it and type!!!

As with many, the bug is back there somewhere due to an Underwood No. 5. My grandparents had a No 5. My parents had a yellow Royal Safari that I used to index card everything, including a beer can collection. Collection syndrome clue! A casual interest in typewriters started with a garage sale 3 bank simply because it said Underwood on it. Typewriters were found here and there , but I wasn't actively looking for them. The long dormant collecting tic was activated when my neighbors left a Remington Quiet Riter on the curb when they moved.
Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
