Description:
The earliest incarnation of the tiny Brother EP-series electronic battery-operated wedge. Prints a very basic 9-pin dot matrix font and takes a tiny ribbon made of unobtanium, but is a pleasant little machine.
New typesample sans ribbon on thermal fax paper, much better than with the ribbon on plain paper.
2018 Update: This year has been a good one for the EP-20 in the Typosphere. I know of 4 or 5 typists who have picked up one and dearly love them now. I find it interesting that the interest upticked dramatically right after Joe Van Cleave's video on his new EP-20 acquisition. I'll add a link to that video, since it's such an excellent evangelist on the subject. It is gratifying to see this weird little machine find an audience among collectors. (:

I am a scoundrel without a cause, and my swank outshines the sun.
I am a casual Typewriter Hunter residing in the sweltering deserts of Arizona with a wife, three cats and about 50 typewriters. My main hunting ground is thrift stores, and I rarely pay more than $10 for a machine. My collection consists mainly of portables with cases, and they stay in the cases unless I am actively using it (usually more than one at a time). I do, however keep a handful of interesting Selectrics, including a Composer and a couple of large Nakajima Electronics to use as daisywheel printers for my vintage laptop collection.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Brother EP-20 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Brother Serial Number page and the Brother EP-20 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
