1983 Brother 3800 Serial # L33225625 1983 Brother 3800 typewriter, Serial # L33225625 Andrew Nold's 1983 Brother 3800 typewriter. 2022-09-26 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Andrew Nold: 1983 Brother 3800 Serial # L33225625 This Brother electric typewriter was quite the find. Smooth carriage return, consistent line spacing, and pleasing returns make this the best electric typewriter that I have ever owned. Although this model is quite heavy (compared to some other portable manuals) it still is worth carrying to the library some days. The model I got was quite dirty when I got it, due to the "correcting" white ribbon (this is a common theme for "correcting" typewriters). The switches to turn on the machine, select correcting/normal ribbon, and impact pressure all work quite nicely.

The carrying case/cover for this typewriter is a smooth black. Due to the cover not shielding the bottom vents of the unit, I have been concerned about snow intrusion while walking in a snowstorm. Neglecting bad weather, the typewriter is heavy but quite portable. One downside to the case design is that the power cable does not stay nicely in the cover. It takes some finagling to close the cover with the cord enclosed.

View of type bars with front cover removed. This typewriter cover lifts off with a smooth upwards motion. One of the best removable covers I've seen yet on a typewriter.

Carriage spring located beneath the left ribbon spool. I quite enjoy the smooth carriage operation and electric return.

The bell on this typewriter is quite loud for it's small size-- produces a quite pleasing tone. It is located below the carriage, near the right ribbon spool.
