Description:
A TWDB first unless one is lurking about under another name. A Brother JP-14 for Sears. Brother sold them as Correct-O-Ball with an XL-7800 SN tag. The big brother to the 7300 model. A wonder of typewriter tech and a window into the typewriter market circa 1980. Aimed directly at the Selectric iii at more than half the cost. Brother must have invested heavily in this while also going big time into electronic daisy wheels. By 1983 the ads are trying to blow them out at steep discounts and then they are done. There was a Correct O Sphere 3. It would appear that not many of the 7800 were sold, but by using ebay and Goodwill, I'd say the 7300 was a good seller. I don't see a gallery for them...
The unfortunate issue is the one off ribbon that Brother long ago stopped supporting. However, the ads tell me they put a nylon ribbon in this cartridge, so a 13mm nylon might be able to be wound in. I'll get a 7300 for five or ten bucks just for the ribbon and the ball and see how it goes. This ribbon, how old and almost used up, still works.
Pending a light clean and lubrication.

As with many, the bug is back there somewhere due to an Underwood No. 5. My grandparents had a No 5. My parents had a yellow Royal Safari that I used to index card everything, including a beer can collection. Collection syndrome clue! A casual interest in typewriters started with a garage sale 3 bank simply because it said Underwood on it. Typewriters were found here and there , but I wasn't actively looking for them. The long dormant collecting tic was activated when my neighbors left a Remington Quiet Riter on the curb when they moved.
Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Sears Correct-O-Sphere 2 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Sears Serial Number page and the Sears Correct-O-Sphere 2 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
