1982 IBM Correcting Selectric II Serial # 856-58 2160461 1982 IBM Correcting Selectric II typewriter, Serial # 856-58 2160461 Stephen Cook's 1982 IBM Correcting Selectric II typewriter. 2024-03-12 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Stephen Cook: 1982 IBM Correcting Selectric II Serial # 856-58 2160461 This machine is a bit of an enigma. It was found in New Zealand in a Government Department. They logged a service request to have it made operational and did not know where it came from. I have to assume it was another Gov't Department or possibly a Foreign Embassy or similar. I advised them it was not possible to convert it to normal LTR use and asked if they were going to dispose of it, please let me know. Short story they gave it to me, nice! Normally this would be a model 6126 855 (SII Single Pitch Correcting 15"), but the SN label has "856" in front and I'm going to assume for now that this is the correct model code, and that I simply don't have reference documentation that covers this specific series. I will be grateful for any additional information on this very unique machine. Apologies for the photos, the Paintwork is in very poor condition due to past storage in damp conditions. There is some internal surface rust but this is cosmetic only and can be largely removed. The machine itself works fine and I have a brief video showing same

Manufacture Label - Amsterdam Netherlands. Many European models came from this plant, and XYD appears to be a common code.

It 'may' be a variation of the "835 Kadurit" listed on this Part Number Listing book. I do not have the corresponding A/PM. I understand "Kadurit" is Hebrew for "Ball" and this is not unlike German Selectrics' being referred to as "Kugelkopfe". The iconic "Selectric" name seems to be not actually used much in European countries.

Many hobbies, IBM Selectric Typewriters is one of them. Ex IBM Customer Engineer based in Wellington, New Zealand, 47 years Selectric experience. Active on the GolfballTypewriterShop on Facebook. After leaving IBM I worked for Triumph-Adler NZ for several years starting as a field engineer, moving up to Dealer Technical Support finally being conscripted into the National Service Manager role (I preferred being a tech) so I have a fondness for TA machines also.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Correcting Selectric II on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Correcting Selectric II By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
