Description:
New for Kmart in 1980 and available until 83-84, when the K6MB correction takes over for 1984. The end of the 6 series machines and department store co-ops. This and the Classic 12 are the last of the manual machines for SC.
It is interesting that in the late 70s until the end, they are actually getting better. The platen is thicker, which is a huge improvement. The escapement rocker, borrowed from the electrics, is quieter. And the articulating cover is gone.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to any one area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Deville Deluxe on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Deville Deluxe By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
