Description:
The first ads are in 1980. The blowout starts in late 82. Then they start selling the cheap Deville with the same name.
If they started at 100000W, then I'd say this is 1980. It is getting to the end of the line for the 6 series based electric. This one has a feature I have not seen on a late model one so far. Check out the thickness of the platen. And it is much quieter.
This case queen was not used for more than a few hours. Service was limited to removing the lower access panel, and a brush, blow, lube and go.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to any one area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Deville Cartridge on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Deville Cartridge By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
