Description:
And yet another premiere on TWDB!
This machine doesn't work. The AC motor turns on and the machine makes a rattling noise.
UPDATE 2022-10-24: Opened the machine to measure the power supply and blew a diode. Noticed that the "memory protection" batteries leaked and damaged the PCB underneath them. That's not a big deal as that's an optional feature. However, the machine is working even less now, given the new power supply damage. See linked photo albums for more.
I was surprised to see that the electronics are, again, entirely IBM proprietary, even though IBM officially has, now, a "processor board", a "driver board", and a "memory expansion board" ("+8K"), and the electronics are much smaller than with the earlier Mag Card/Memory Typewriter machines.

I started collecting my first pre-WW2 standard typewriters in 2017. Since then I have added a few machines to my collection, which now ranges from the 1880s to the 1980s. As of 2024, I have more big standard (desktop) typewriters than portables, a few standard electrics, and some unusual machines like Varitypers, uncommon IBM machines, and more. I am not a pro restorer, but I have restored a few of my machines beyond simple cleaning.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Electronic Typewriter 75 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Electronic Typewriter 75 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
