Description:
Picked this up at thrift. It's in excellent working condition. Appears to have original bands with no issues. Very little corrosive pitting in existence. Super clean, though it smells funky! Had a ribbon cartridge in it, but it had been broken and needed extracting; not sure if that happened before or after donation. Popped in a replacement and it was off to the races. The case is also in great shape and really clean, so I expect this rarely got used and was cared for well while it was.
Despite this being in such excellent condition, considering this is a very common model and colorway, I'm nearly certain I'm going to do a visual restoration on it to end up with a really unique piece that I can enjoy for years. I really enjoy using it to write on. It types beautifully; only issue is that it can't keep up with my 90+WPM typing speeds, so I have to slow down to its upper limits, which it handles beautifully.

In cleaning the interior areas, I took a closer look at my bands. I think they are actually older replacement bands, and I found damage on one, so I decided to replace both. I used Danco's 10714 - Large O-Ring Assortment #3, which cost $6.27 at my Lowe's. If you're buying some, pay close attention to the packaging, because a lot had been ripped open and a ring or two stolen. I saw a gentleman in a YouTube video suggest these for replacing bands on the Super 12. He used the #122 (5⅞"x5⅝"x ⅛") and #121 (4⅛"x3⅞" x ⅛") rings. Those proved to be entirely too loose for me and took me a while to realize that was why the period and semi-colon keys weren't striking hard enough to leave an imprint, and the surrounding keys struck weakly. I instead used the #119 (3⅞"x3⅝"x ⅛") and #117 (3¾"x3½"x ⅛") rings and that worked out just great. The machine got even quieter than I ever expected it could, and just purrs now. Great strike action too.
