Description:
A host of problems and the telltale signs of someone who was screwdriver challenged. The ribbon lift, a plastic piece, was not attached. The carriage return was slow and the margin release was inop. After major surgery to get the ribbon lift reattached, the return clutch didn't like any solvent in it while trying to sort the margin issues. I parked it and put it on the parts shelf. A tip from a retired Olympia dealer on how to approach the clutch, and she's up and running again!!!
Olympia's follow-up to the SGE35 in the electric office compact market. A market created entirely by Smith Corona and dominated by them. However, by the mid-70s the 5TE-based machines are pretty crude in comparison to the guys chasing them. You can easily see the cost-cutting underway by comparing a 45 to the previous 35.
