Description:
This Sears typewriter is from a local college, and is a resource for R.A.s in the dorms. I was invited in to view the typewriter, and demonstrate operation and proper use. I took the opportunity to gather a typeface sample and see how it worked! The first thing I noticed was the typewriter itself had seen much better days. The plastic case was broken in multiple places, and there was a notable layer of dust everywhere in the typewriter. In addition, there was a price tag and colored drawings with googly eyes on the typewriter.
However, overlooking aesthetic damages, the typewriter was a joy to use. As compared to other portable manual typewriters I've used, the keys felt solid and had a pleasing travel. Operation of the shift and spacer worked well, and the repeat spacer was a nice touch. The bell had a pleasing tone, and the keys had solid strokes. I only had a few minutes to use the typewriter, but its pleasing operation left me wanting to sit down for an hour or two and write a long multipage letter.
