Description:
When I got this machine, it didn't work at all. I had it serviced by Ole in Sacramento, and the machine eventually started, but it produced that infamous rattling noise: the hub was cracked.
So I decided to go with a hub replacement. Clark Hinson, on eBay, offers a hub replacement service whereby you send your arbor with hub to him, and he places a brand new aluminium hub on it.
I did the arbor/hub renewal myself, following a video by Duane Jensen on YouTube, however I didn't feel confident to install the new one, obviously a more difficult task. So Ole did it for me, and the machine now works great!
If I keep any of my Swelectrics, this will be the one: it has a beautiful blue color, and now a hub that will survive the rest of the machine.

I started collecting my first pre-WW2 standard typewriters in 2017. Since then I have added a few machines to my collection, which now ranges from the 1880s to the 1980s. As of 2024, I have more big standard (desktop) typewriters than portables, a few standard electrics, and some unusual machines like Varitypers, uncommon IBM machines, and more. I am not a pro restorer, but I have restored a few of my machines beyond simple cleaning.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Correcting Selectric II on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Correcting Selectric II By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
