1976 Silver Reed 280 Serial # 91996965 1976 Silver Reed 280 typewriter, Serial # 91996965 Dimitris Nikou's 1976 Silver Reed 280 typewriter. 2021-09-23 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Dimitris Nikou: 1976 Silver Reed 280 Serial # 91996965 Typewriter #7 of my collection, a Silver Reed 280 Fast Spacer made in Japan. It has a Greek keyboard, wears a very pleasant and fancy orange metallic frame and it features touch adjustment, a paper rest, tabulator and you can also draw lines with it. While the Silver Reeds were not uncommon in my country back in the days, I haven't seen any of these machines before and there was no example of the specific model here on TWDB. It writes very nice and what I like the most is that its font is smaller that the usual, it looks very delicate on paper and it also saves space of course. As a machine left in dust for quite some time, it had the usual need for a good deep cleaning and everything works fine. It is also quite light, given the fact that is it mostly made of metal, weighting 4,5Kg, it has almost the same weight as my Italian made Olympia Standard, but the Olympia has a plastic frame. I believe those machines were a good value for money option at their time. After some time of owning it, I decided to sell it to a new typewriter collector that was really interested in using it.

Writer and blogger from Athens, Greece. I own a small collection of typewriters, most of my machines are functional and I try to repair any with problems that keeps it from typing. For me, it is important for a typewriter not just to sit on a shelve for display, but to be able to type when I want to. On the links below you will find my blogs and social media profiles. Feel free to follow me and get in touch if you want. I am always happy to communicate :)
