1975 Adler Tippa S Serial # 5885736 1975 Adler Tippa S typewriter, Serial # 5885736 Jerry Himes's 1975 Adler Tippa S typewriter. 2024-10-01 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Jerry Himes: 1975 Adler Tippa S Serial # 5885736 A Dutch-made black and sports car yellow Adler Tippa S. Basket-shifted with an adjustable tabulator. Nice enough to type with, but kinda loud. The first machine I had to learn how to fix myself to get it working.

This was my main ultra-portable before getting a Lettera 32, and I got a lot of use out of it. It got relegated to a back up role, as the Lettera is just a better machine in almost every way. Edit: In a surprise twist the carriage-shifted, plastic-bodied Triumph/Adler Tippas from the 60s are even better machines to use than the Tippa S OR the Lettera 32.

Internally the Tippa S and the Adler Contessa de Luxe seem to be exactly the same machine.

Has the standard Pica typeface and the older version of the Finnish standard keyboard layout, which differs slightly from the one still in general use

Given away in October 2024.

I have been looking for ways to spend less time on electronic devices, and because of this I started doing my writing and translation work with pens and pencils, and now on typewriters as well. I have noticed that adding typewriters to the process has been beneficial to the quality of the text, plus it's just more fun this way.

I have started selling and giving away some of my machines now that I have figured out which ones I want to keep. Some people have asked me for working typewriters, so I have been on the lookout for machines purely for that purpose as well. As fun and instructive as it has been, soon it is time to finish this collecting and tinkering and move back to my original intention: writing. I hope.
